Details About a Variety of Pet Care Subjects

How far in advance can I make a reservation?
You can make a reservation as far as a year in advance.  As a matter of fact, you are encouraged to make any holiday reservations at least 10 weeks ahead!  During the summer months, you will need to be two or three weeks in advance.  Our best recommendation is: if you think you might be going out of town, go ahead and make a reservation.

Is there a charge for cancelling a reservation?
No.  We ask that you let us know as soon as your plans change.  We usually have a wait list, so we can usually quickly fill the space.  By cancelling, you just might make someone else's day!

What do you charge for pet boarding?
We charge by the night.  For pups, the rate is $25 per night.  Kitties are $14 per night.  That's it!  There are no extra charges for holidays, play time, or giving vaccinations.  We do give discounted rates for stays longer than a week.  Call us at 785-539-1515 for more details.

What’s included in doggie day care?
Day care for dogs is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and by appointment on the weekends.  Dogs spend time outside with each other, based on size, energy level and age, weather permitting. We rotate groups in and out so they can get  a break from time to time.

How often do the dogs go outside each day?
All dogs that are boarding with us go outside a minimum of four times a day for a duration of 15 to 30 minutes each time, depending on the weather. Generally, these walks occur at 6:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. If you would like your pup to have extra time outside, or time with the humans, just let us know and we will make that happen.

Will my dog have the opportunity to play with other dogs?
We have had great success when we do socialize the dogs staying with us in order to burn off excess energy.  We take all of our guests out in groups according to size, temperament, and activity level.

What if my dog doesn’t play well with others?
We treat every pet individually. If group situations don’t work for your dog, we’ll keep him or her separate from the group initially. Usually after the pups get a chance to get settled in we can introduce them to the others staying here.  Sometimes, that just doesn't work out.  That's not a problem.  We have a separate yard where they can go outside and do their doggie stuff.  Feel free to get in touch with us and discuss any concerns you may have about this subject.

May I have my dog groomed before pickup?
Of course! We can have your dog groomed and ready to go at the appointed time. It is best if you make the appointment ahead of time with Bark Avenue to ensure we can fit you in their sometimes hectic schedule.  Please call 785-565-0612 for appointments.  Just remind us at check in that you have an appointment!

What’s the schedule for dropping off and picking up my dog?
Three convenient times are available every day of the year. Go to boarding services for details.

I have more than one dog. Can you accommodate them in the same kennel?
Yes, we are equipped to kennel multiple dogs together. It doesn’t affect the boarding fee because we charge per dog, not per kennel. Go to boarding services for more information.

Are there forms and other paperwork involved?
Yes, we have a check-in sheet to be filled out each time your pet comes to stay. To expedite the process, simply print off and fill out the forms found on the boarding services page prior to drop-off. We also require a current copy of your pet's vaccinations.

Do you accept pets who haven’t been spayed or neutered?
All males six months or older that have not been neutered need to meet with Michael for an evaluation before they can board here. We don’t require females to be spayed, but they can’t be in heat – or expected to go into heat – while staying with us.
