Michael Gassmann, the owner of Wildcat Pet Resort, purchased the business in 2006. While his previous professional background was based in the food service industry, he has used his innate out-of-the-box thinking to put his own personal stamp on running a traditional dog kennel in a non-traditional way.
We treat and keep the dogs and cats in our care as if they are our very own. That includes walking them four times a day – adding the before-bed walk – as opposed to the usual two or three at other facilities. We later started taking the dogs out in groups – big dogs with big dogs, small dogs with small dogs. This proved to be a wise decision because the animals play and burn more energy this way.

Throughout the years we have changed and evolved to keep a step ahead of our competition.
In 2016, we did some extensive remodeling work. We added more space for large dogs and created a whole new cat room.
In the summer of 2017 we extended the patio in our north yard to give a bigger space for the pups to spread out without getting muddy. It includes a drain so we will be able to have a pool this summer without the addition of a big mud hole!
We are constantly working to improve our facility. You will often see Michael out and about with his tool belt on.
Additions to the Family
In 2011, Bark Avenue Canine Designs moved in and became a part of Wildcat Pet Resort. This move brings added convenience for pet parents and a complete grooming experience for the pets we serve.
In November, 2017, Renee and Michael were able to purchase the building next door and Muttschool- a dog training company- owned by Renee's sister Mary Hager, moved in. They offer positive pet training. You can have your pup trained while they are staying with us too!
In December, 2017 Sunflower Pet Supply moved in as well. They offer all natural pet supplies for your dog and cat. Mike Bonella, a local guy, already has a store on the east side of town and in Lawrence.
